Recently I was asked by a friend that is not a part of the wedding industry what the purpose of a styled shoot is. The question took me by surprise at first because to me it seems so obvious, but the more I’ve thought about the question, the more I understand that it really isn’t so obvious to everyone else.
While I can’t speak for everyone, and any vendor can have many different reasons for putting together styled shoots/inspiration shoots/editorials (all the same thing), I can tell you why I do them from time to time:
I occasionally will photograph a styled shoot because I love to take photos of pretty things. Pretty simple.
I also like to show personal taste, my favorite kinds details, and provide inspiration for real brides who are currently planning their weddings. And of course these kinds of shoots are helpful to all vendors involved! Everyone brings their best effort to these kinds of photo shoots because everyone gets the photos to use for their portfolios, and to show real engaged couples the kind of work they WANT to be doing.
And having said all that- here are my very favorites from my most recent inspiration photo shoot. I hope brides who are currently planning their fall 2019 weddings walk away from these photos feeling inspired by using all the beautiful fall foliage that Arkansas has to offer in their own wedding decor (notice there is not a single flower arrangement on the table!). Another favorite detail from these photos is the color scheme. I love that while these photos certainly scream “fall”, the colors still feel light and airy, soft, and romantic- nothing too dark or dramatic.
Special thanks to Laurie Miller of The Velvet Boxwood for knocking this one out of the park.
